Week 1: Who Am I

So who exactly am I? Quite a complicated question when you really think about it but the easy answer is, I am the following:

I am a wife - this is one of the most wonderful roles I have ever had to play in my life. I feel gratefully daily that my precious chose ME to spend the rest of his life with and I will do my utmost to ensure he never regrets that's decision. I love looking after him, supporting him, motivating him and just spending every minute I can with him.

I am an entrepreneur - this is an exciting and stressful role but something that I am convinced I was born with or born to be. From selling popcorn with my cousin, to hiring out my services as a clown at children's parties to tuckshops out my school locker, I knew I would always be my own boss one day and I am having so much fun doing just that. My 2 little businesses (www.roxstarbikini.com and www.belo.co.za) continue to grow and flourish every day and its so great to see my hard work paying off.

I am an infertile - this is one of the toughest and most heart breaking roles I play at the moment. "Infertility means not being able to get pregnant after one year of trying (or six months if a woman is 35 or older)" - definition of infertile My husband and I have been trying to fall pregnant for 18 months so are well into our journey of infertility and it is the most devastating journey we have ever taken. What started out as great excitement and expectation ends monthly in huge disappointment and heart ache. Each month we morn the child we didn't have and start again on the rollercoaster of hope and expectation and so the cycle goes on. This is the one role I cant wait NOT to be.

I am a faithful Christian - "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me", no valley is too deep and no mountain is too high with God by my side. I have such faith in God's promises for my life and the many blessings he has in store for us. God is an Almighty God where nothing is too great for his power. What else can I do but trust in Him and his Word and pray that His will be done in my life.

I am all of these things and more . . .much, MUCH more x

Motivational Monday - Rawlicious

Today marks Day 1 of the raw food diet my friend Caley and I have undertaken to do.

Basically we will only be eating raw food, seeds, nuts and beans for 5 days.

I have often heard of how great a raw food diet is but have never done much research into it up until now.

Why a raw food diet?

A raw food diet is not just good for you - it’s also good science! You don’t have to take our word for it, have ‘faith’ or trust the latest nutrition guru. Science now proves that cooking not only destroys nutrition and enzymes but chemically changes foods from the substances needed for health into acid-forming toxins, free-radicals and poisons that destroy our health!

Here are a few of the benefits I found:

1. Weight Loss

2. Mental Clarity – After removing pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, chemicals, dyes, and poisons from your body (basically processed food), you will have found that your brain works faster than ever.

3. Improved Skin

4. Improved Health – The health benefits of raw are one of the first things you feel, often within the first couple days of improving your diet.

5. Improved Spirituality

6. Better Sex

7. Enzymes- Cooking food destroys much of the natural enzymes (your body can also create enzymes, but can only do so much) in your food that are needed to break down nutrients. Eating raw eliminates this problem.

8. Insane energy. You won’t know this unless you try it for yourself, but eating raw gives you an amazing boost in energy.

9. Better sleep and less sleep needed

Here is a great recipe I found that I will definitely be trying!

Fattoush Recipe
Delicious, tangy, and refreshing Fattoush Salad features high-water-content veggies to cool you down, while mint and parsley brighten things up with breezy greenness. Top it all off with a magical sprinkling of za’atar and you got yourself one crazy-clean flavoured dish that puts your taste buds on the next train to fresh town.

Ingredients:
2 medium cucumbers, with skin
3 cups chopped tomatoes (I used a combination of cherry, plum, and grape tomatoes)
2 red bell peppers
1 large red onion
3 green onions
1 cup chopped flat-leaf parsley
¾ cup chopped mint
raw flax crackers, flatbread, or toasted pita

Directions:
1. Wash, prepare, and chop all veggies into bite-sized pieces. Wash, spin-dry herbs and chop. Place in a large bowl.
2. Pour dressing over salad, stir, and let stand for at least 30 minutes at room temperature to allow the flavours to meld.
3. Right before serving, sprinkle generously with za’atar, crumble raw flax crackers and fold into salad. Enjoy.

Fattoush Salad Dressing
Ingredients:
¼ cup extra virgin cold-pressed olive oil
¼ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
zest of 1 lemon (organic, un-waxed if possible!)
1 tsp. raw liquid honey or maple syrup
2 – 4 cloves garlic, minced
a couple pinches of sea salt
a pinch of black pepper

Directions:
1. Put all ingredients in a jar with a light-fitting lid and shake.

I have a busy week with birthday drinks tomorrow and a girls dinner on Tuesday night so things could get interesting!

Wish us luck and hopefully with enough motivation we'll stick to it!

Recently I have done a collaboration with an awesome young photographer called Kelly Epskamp and Angelique Dippenaar. These lovely two ladies have put together an awesome package for aspiring models. The package includes  pictures for their portfolios in Roxstar bikinis aswell as the stunning clothes from Cinnamon. I think that this is a great opportunity for young models looking to break into the industry to jazz up their portfolios and im excited to do more work with these talented girls.

belo

So this week saw the launch of belo which was VERY exciting! belo is a brand that I have been working on for a few months now and to see it finally taking shape and coming together is just great.

Why belo you might ask? Well it took me a very long time to come up with the name and after a few disasterous name ideas, I decided it looked and felt right. belo is Portugese for 'beautiful' and I found it very fitting for the products that it would represent.

belo is going to be housing a number of products but first up is beautiful handbags. After my birthday in January, I decided I would invest in a decent leather handbag. After walking from one end of Gateway to the other and coming out empty handed I realised that there was a HUGE lack of beautiful handbags. That is when belo was first concieved in my mind and after months of planning, designing, and buyiny, belo handbags have arrived!
